Title : Influence of henna extract on the Inhibition efficiency of Diethylene Triamine penta (methylenephosphonic Acid)
DTPMP–Zn2+ System

Abstract : The Inhibition efficiency (IE) of various concentrations of a DTPMP – Zn2+– henna system in controlling corrosion of mild steel immersed in well water was evaluated by a mass – loss study. The formulation consisting of 50 ppm of DTPMP and 25 ppm of Zn2+ and 1 ml of henna showed 90% Inhibition efficiency. A synergistic effect was noticed between DTPMP – Zn2+– henna system. In the presence of henna DTPMP- Zn2+ system has excellent inhibition efficiency. Polarization studies reveal that DTPMP – Zn2+– henna functions as a mixed type inhibitor. AC impedance spectra suggest that a protective film is formed on the metal surface. The protective film was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The film consisted of Fe2+ DTPMP complex and zinc hydroxide [Zn (OH)2]. SEM micrographs and AFM reveal that a protective film was formed on the metal surface by the inhibitor and therefore corrosion is prevented.

Title : CORROSION INHIBITION BY SELF ASSEMBLING MOLECULES

Abstract : The inhibition efficiency(IE) of sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS)-Zn2+ system in controlling corrosion of
carbon steel immersed in ground water has been evaluated by weight-loss method. The formulation consisting
of 50 ppm of SDS and 5 ppm of Zn2+ has 83% IE. At lower pH value(pH=6) IE decreases and in alkaline
medium(pH=8) IE increases. As the period of immersion increase the IE decreases. Polarization study reveals
that SDS- Zn2+ system functions as a mixed inhibitor. AC Impedance spectra reveal that a protective film is
formed on the metal surface. FTIR spectra reveal that the protective film consists of Fe2+-SDS complex and
Zn(OH)2.
